Don't Let Your Wedding Morning Go Off-Schedule!

No one wants to run late on their wedding day, especially when it comes to getting ready and looking fabulous. But unfortunately, things happen! As a glam professional, I've noticed a few common patterns that can derail your "getting ready" timeline. The good news? They're all completely preventable!

Here are the culprits that often lead to delays with hair and makeup on the wedding day, along with simple solutions:

  • Late Arrivals: This is a big one! The entire party arriving later than the scheduled start time can throw off the whole day.

    • Solution: Set those alarms and make sure everyone gets enough sleep the night before. Secure transportation or rideshares early to avoid last-minute scrambling.

  • Nobody Wants to Go First: It's common for everyone to hesitate about being the first in the hair or makeup chair.

    • Solution: Delegate the first round of people for hair and makeup beforehand. Here's an incentive: the first person gets my sharpest focus and the initial round of touch-ups!

  • Searching for Inspiration Photos: Waiting until the last minute to find your desired look can eat up valuable time.

    • Solution: Screenshot your inspiration photos the night before. This way, they'll be front and center in your camera roll, and you won't have to rely on spotty venue Wi-Fi or wait for your Pinterest board to load.

  • Constant Phone Distractions: Scrolling through social media or answering texts and notifications while in the chair is a major time-waster.

    • Solution: In a 6-8 hour getting-ready window, I only need about 45 minutes of your uninterrupted time to complete a service. That leaves plenty of hours to handle personal business before or after your glam session.

  • Post-Steaming Hair and Makeup Fixes: Having to fix hair and makeup after dresses are steamed is a common, avoidable delay.

    • Solution: Please steam dresses before your hair and makeup service, ideally the night before. You could also hire a company to handle the steaming for your party.

  • Everyone Asking the Bride Questions: The bride is often bombarded with questions while trying to get ready.

    • Solution: Delegate a trusted bridesmaid or friend to be the point person for all questions. This allows the bride to relax and enjoy the process.

  • Early Vendor Arrivals (Photographer/Others): When photographers or other vendors arrive early and need details or specific items, it can pull you away from getting ready.

    • Solution: For detail shots, have all the items ready in a designated box so you can easily direct your photographer, or put a bridesmaid in charge of this. For other vendor questions, delegate a friend to handle those details.

While each of these might seem like a small 5-minute bump in the road, they all add up and are completely preventable. I'm a big believer that the getting-ready process sets the tone for the entire wedding day. With a little preparation and clear communication between the artists, bride, and bridal party, we can plan for the smoothest, stress-free, and chill morning imaginable!
