The Ocean Course at Kiawah

Whitney & Cole

Hair Details

Whitney hired me to do her hair for her wedding day. Her photos were taken by Leigh Hayward Photography and the day was planned by Engaging Events.

I met Whitney for her preview session a few days prior to her wedding. We tested out a low, sleek bun. Whitney did mention that she was still last minute “Amazon-ing” last minute wedding details to her rental in Kiawah. One of those items is a 2nd veil option that may or may not arrive. I had a slight suspicion that the low bun may not be our final look and she decided on having her hair all down on the wedding day!

She showed me a few photos that she liked on Pinterest and they were very polished Hollywood Waves.

There were a few things to consider with the change being on the day of the wedding:

  • Hollywood Waves take at least 2.5 hours to create. If I know before, we can start earlier in the morning so that we stay on our timeline. For a standard bridal hair style, I schedule 1 hour together.

  • For an all day hold, extensions are required.

  • They look soft and bouncy but it is a very stiff hairstyle and you need to commit to not touching, be touched or moving around a lot once the style is locked in.

Here is the solution that I offered Whitney for her wedding day hair:

  • A shiny, soft and bouncy version of the hairstyle that will blow in the breeze on the golf course and potential fall throughout the night in a way that looks more lived in rather than defeated.

  • If we keep the front of the hair sleek and use a hair tie to secure it flat to the base of the neck, she won’t have to worry about the front pieces of her hair blowing around (it was a windy day).

  • I did warn her that it may take me 30 minute more than the timing we previously discussed. We looked over our itinerary and saw that we had already agreed on a timing that allowed some wiggle room. If there was a chance we would run over, I could text her planner to let her know.

At the end of the day, everything ran on time and the 2nd veil arrived. We all collectively agreed Veil #2 from Amazon was the winner.
