Romantic, Historical Hair and Makeup at The Governor Thomas Bennett House in Charleston, SC

It’s always important to keep up on current trends. However, I think it is just as important to be educated on historical hair and makeup styles. Charleston is rich in history and many people come here to get married because of the lush backdrops, gorgeous architecture and photographs that look like they come out of a historic romance novel.

Sara knew she wanted a soft, romantic airy bun for her wedding that looked like something Kiera Knightley would have worn in Pride & Prejeduice. She also brought me tiny pearls to pin into the hair and asked that we add a small braid to the side of the hairstyle.

My favorite part about doing this look is that Sara incorporated some of her personal and current style choices. For the makeup, we focused on a soft, peachy cheek that looks like you just pinched your cheeks before walking down the aisle and we matched the lip color. Sara added her signature winged liner. I am so comfortable with stepping back and allowing you to incorporate any beauty routines, rituals or techniques that feel personal and special to you. Sometimes I am the expert in charge and sometimes it is a collaboration. Both are a gift.

Sara had a beautiful, intimate wedding at The Governor Thomas Bennett House. The wedding was planned by BWed who provides elopement packages for brides that are looking for a smaller ceremony. Adrienne Cooper Photography captured the memories.
